The boxing lightweight match between Juan Manuel Marquez vs Juan Diaz II is dubbed as “The Fight of the Year – the Rematch!” is set to take place on July 31, 2010 live at the Mandalay Bay Resort & Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada, USA and on PPV (Pay-Per-View).
The first meeting between the two was slugfest and it garnered Fight of the Year nominations and even won the Fight of the Year from Boxingscene. We should expect the rematch to be no less than the first encounter.
Juan Manuel Marquez is set to prove that he has still much left in the tank and is still a very viable opponent for Manny Pacquiao. On the other hand, Juan Diaz is ready to regain the Lightweight titles that he lost and prove to the boxing world that he is still the king of the Lightweights. Both fighters also need wins to stay in contention for the top dogs in the Lightweight and Light Welterweight (even the Welterweight Division if Marquez dares to try that division again) as both men are coming from losses. Juan Manuel Marquez lost to Floyd Mayweather in a Welterweight bout which was a mismatch from the start and Juan Diaz lost to Pauli Paul Malignaggi via Unanimous Decision for the WBO NABO light welterweight title.
There will be love lost between the two and we will expect more from this fight. Juan Manuel Marquez vs Juan Diaz II - the Rematch, should be again another contender for the Fight of the Year Awards and hopefully it meets all the hype and expectations!
