Miguel Cotto vs Yuri Foreman Preview

Former Light Welterweight and Welterweight Champion Miguel Cotto makes a move to the Light Middleweight division (154 lbs) this Saturday as he challenges WBA Light Middleweight Champion Yuri Foreman for his 154-pound title.

Miguel Cotto will attempt to join Puerto Rican standouts such as Wilfredo Gomez, Hector Camacho, and Felix Trinidad as fighters to hold titles in three different weight classes while aspiring Rabbi WBA Light Middleweight Champion Yuri Foreman will make his first defense of his belt and will try his best to add a name to his resume that would give his career a greater sense of credibility.

Miguel Cotto vs Yuri Foreman bout will be held in the Yankees Stadium will be the first boxing match in The Bronx since 1976. With the venue, it is expected that Miguel Cotto vs Yuri Foreman will be stormed in by fans as Yuri Foreman is Brooklyn-based while Miguel Cotto will be backed up by the big Puerto Rican community in New York.

Miguel Cotto The 29-year old is 34-2 with 27 knockouts. Miguel Cotto was one of the hottest welterweigths with 32 wins and 0 losses before meeting Antonio Margarito for his first loss then regained with wins over Michael Jennings and tough Joshua Clottey and then lost to pound-for-pound king Manny Pacquiao. He has wins over championship-caliber opponents such as Cesar Bazan, Lovemore N’dou, Randall Bailey, DeMarcus Corley, Ricardo Torres, Paul Malignaggi, Carlos Quintana, Zab Judah, Shane Mosley, and Joshua Clottey. He is 5’7” with a 67” reach, which could be big problem for his try at a crack 154-pound belt that Yuri Foreman holds.

Yuri Foreman, 29-year old Israeli-Brooklynite, is undefeated at 28-0 with 8 knockouts. At at 5’11” with a 72” reach, Yuri Foreman is taller and is considerably longer than Cotto. Yuri Foreman has never faced anyone overly formidable before beating the capable but inconsistent Daniel Santos in November for his belt. At the same time, he does hold wins over some pretty good fighters such as Jesus Soto-Karass, Anthony Thompson, Andrey Tsurkan, and Saul Roman.

Fight Fiesta's Prediction.
I am a big Miguel Cotto fan and I know what Miguel Cotto can offer, but if you consider Miguel Cotto's wear and tear, that could be a problem. Also, 4 of Cotto's last 6 fights were all tough fights all of it going more than 10 rounds; 12 round UD win over Shane Mosley, 5 rounds  RTD win over Alfonso Gomez, 11th round TKO loss to Antonio Margarito, 5 rounds TKO win over Michael Jennings, 12 rounds SD win over Joshua Clottey and the greatest beating that he had was a 12 round TKO loss to Manny Pacquiao.

With that, I know that Miguel Cotto is a proven warrior but his wear and tear on his 29-year old body would be a big factor. Yuri Foreman is fast but too feather-fisted so Yuri's power will never be a problem but his frame against the smaller frame of Miguel Cotto may be a big factor. If Miguel Cotto can show the world and can prove top his critics that he still has more left in his tank after tough losses to Margarito and Pacquiao, I will give this bout to Miguel Cotto. This is make or break for Cotto, while this will help Yuri Foreman boost his credibility, win or lose, as long as he can be impressive and prove that he can take Cotto's best punches

Final verdict on Miguel Cotto vs Yuri Foreman: Miguel Cotto wins WBA Light Middleweight Championship via 12 round Unanimous Decision over Yuri Foreman.
